I was waiting for the train at Raffles Place MRT Station last Monday (28 April 2008) when I chanced upon this sight:
Singaporeans who either can't read the bright yellow arrows on the ground or simply do not possess enough courtesy to stay clear of doorways and let other passengers alight before chiong-ing into the carriages.
It is simply horrifying to note how singaporean Singaporeans can be. And it is yet another testimony of how the courtesy campaign of the 80's had failed.
My close girlfriend who works in the area and frequents that station told me that it is a perfectly normal sight, which just adds on to how horrific it is. Normality in the lack of courtesy? Doesn't it makes you wonder how other civilised countries like Taiwan and Japan can achieve it in simple places like train stations?
Well, like what people say, kiasuism is a Singapore trait. Should we be proud of it?
